Balteus reminds us of the rugged belt used to hang a dagger or sword by Roman soldiers. It was often made from bronze buttons that were riveted into very strong leather. It had to be strong to hold up in battle. Indeed, the Balteus tile is very strong; it is made in the 6 x 6 and 2 x 2-inch sizes and is offered in three unique glazes; Smoked Bronze, Snow Drift, and Brooklyn Black. The colors of Smoked Bronze can vary from dark bronze to a golden and often, a copper color. This tile is slip-cast from one of Anton Assanti's original plaster tile molds.   Balteus is beginning to be seen in upscale pubs and hotels, but also as back-splashes in kitchens and bathrooms. The tile performs quite well for its strength and can be used in just about any environment.  It's beautiful, don't you agree?
